The public sector equality duty (PSED) requires schools to prepare and publish equality objectives at least once every four years. The PSED was introduced by the Equality Act 2010 and applies to all schools, including maintained schools, academies, independent schools, maintained nursery schools, and maintained and non-maintained special schools. Equality objectives are formulated from the Accessibility Action Plan (2019-2022) and the School Improvement & Maintenance Plan 2019/2020. These objectives reflect the school’s ethos and values and will be updated annually. Our Equality Policy aims to demonstrate our compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty:

Our PSHE resource  (E4S) promote equality and develops an understanding of diversity to be implemented during 2023 / 2024 academic year (and reviewed every three years)

Planned Actions

Implement the E4S framework for PSHE by summer 2024 so that pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe, and prepare for life and work in modern Britain (equality and diversity) 

Democracy

  1. Teach pupils how they can influence decision making through the democratic process. Have an active school council and proactive House Captains. 
  2. Encourage pupils to become involved in decision making processes and ensure they are listened to in school.
  3. Help pupils to express their views.

The rule of law

  1. Ensure school rules and expectations are clear and fair.
  2. Help pupils to distinguish right from wrong.
  3. Children to understand why we have rules, how they are made and what happens if we break them. 

Individual liberty

  1. Support children to develop their self- knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence.
  2. Model freedom of speech through pupil participation, while ensuring protection of vulnerable pupils and promoting critical analysis of evidence.
  3. Children to have responsibilities which can be carried out independently.

Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

  1. Promote respect for individual differences. Help pupils to acquire an understanding of, and respect for, their own and other cultures and ways of life.
  2. Opportunities to celebrate the cultures and faiths within our school.
  3. Discuss differences between people, such as differences of faith, ethnicity, disability, gender or sexuality and differences of family situations, such as looked-after children or young carers.
