Children’s well-being and happiness is at the very heart of Ashurst Wood’s ethos.

Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health covers aspects of:

  • Behaviour
  • Emotional Literacy
  • Mental Health
  • Anti-Bullying
  • Evidence based targeted work with pupils
  • Evidence based specialist work with pupils

Work of this type in schools has shown to improve behaviour, learning, emotional literacy and mental health.

For these reasons you will find:

Our Sensory Room

A sensory room is a quiet space dedicated to stimulating, developing and relaxing the senses.

Sensory rooms in schools are still far from the norm, especially in mainstream schools, but they have an important role to play for many children. We are fortunate to have an amazing PTFA who raised the funds to enable us to build a sensory room in 2020 to support our children particularly after the national lock downs.

The Group Room

This is a special room on site which is designated for use with children who need extra support in managing their emotional wellbeing. We run Nurture sessions in this room as well as hosting visiting play therapists or counsellors.

Zones of Regualtion

The Zones of Regulation is a complete social-emotional learning curriculum, created to teach children self-regulation and emotional control. It’s often taught in school or therapy settings but the curriculum is appropriate for parents to teach at home, too.
